Preble County Auditor presents monthly financial report for December

EATON — Preble County Auditor Lavon Wright recently presented her financial report for the month ending Dec. 31, 2016.

According to Wright, during the month of December, General Fund receipts totaled $651,116.53, 6.38 percent above the estimate for the month.

The General Fund balance for Preble County began 2016 with a cash balance of $3,800,775.40 and ended the month of December with a balance of $4,781,385.73.

Sales tax revenue for December totaled $483,685.90 from October sales, Wright noted. Local Government Funds was at $34,936.90; charges for services totaled $55,242.88; interest came in at $22,600.84; fines and forfeitures at $2,920.04 and other receipts came in at $35,259.97.

According to Wright, the one-mill conveyance receipts totaled $9,245, with no expenditures for the month.

Expenditures

According to Wright, December 2016 disbursements totaled $909,450.37, 4.07 percent below the estimate for the month. Salaries, PERS and Medicare disbursements were $622,100.36. This was for three pay periods.

Transfers for the month included $17,708.52 to the Preble County Engineer, $15,000 to Dog & Kennel and $20,000 to Children Services.

Department expenditures were $181,516.64 and include supplies ($27,011.08,) equipment ($1,704.55,) charges for services ($139,264.42,) gasoline ($3,941.82) travel, advertising, printing and other expenses.

2016 vs. 2015

General Fund receipts for December 2016 were above 2015 by 6.58 percent, according to Wright. Charges for services were below 2015 22.95 percent; sales tax was up 6.58 percent; local government funds were down 0.7 percent; fines and forfeitures were up 3.96 percent, and interest came in at $22,600.84 for the month. The next casino tax collection was to be in January.

According to Wright, expenditures for December were less than 2015 by 9.27 percent, salaries, PERS, and Medicare were 46.92 percent because there were three pay periods; and department expenditures were down 46.42 percent (or $157,251.79 less spent.)
