VANCOUVER, WA — The 106th National Convention of Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Inc. was held July 9-13. Mary Jane Litz, Lambda Sigma, Phoenix, Arizona, served as Convention Coordinator for the “Delt’s Northwest Journey” held at the Heathman Lodge, Vancouver, WA.

National President, Dona Mostafa, Mu Lambda, of Stockton, CA, presided at the business meetings of the convention. Delegates from 67 chapters were represented. Attending from Gamma Pi of New Paris, was Barb Ferriell.

A combined total from all chapters donated to philanthropic projects during the past year amounted to $185,881.89. The members supported their communities with a total of 52,476 volunteer hours during the past year.

Of philanthropic interest to members is the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias and encouraging professionals in the area of Guidance and Counseling. Delta Theta Tau’s Educational Grant program enables students to continue their studies in the graduate field of Guidance and Counseling. The 2014 delegates allotted $5,000 for Educational Grants, $5,000 for Ectodermal Dysplasis, and $5,000 for This Able Vetran.

Awards were given to chapters with the highest total amount of money spent on philanthropy, and also for the chapters with the most volunteer hours. Receiving the award for the highest amount of money spent for philanthropy was Xi Chapter of Marisa, Illinois. Receiving the award for the most hours spent for philanthropy was Omicron Pi chapter of Bethel, MO. Social activities enjoyed by members included “The Journey Begins” Mixer, “Rolling Down the Columbia” Informal, and the “Majestic Cascades” Banquet.

Delegates elected Bev Edwards of Lamda Alpha Chapter in Taoma, WA to serve as the new National President. She chose her focus for her year at the helm of the organization, “Making a Difference”. Delegates voted to hold the 2016 Convention in DesMoines, Iowa. Delta Theta Tau, a National Philanthropic Sorority, was founded in 1903 in Muncie, Indiana by five high school girls. The first National Convention was held in 1908 at Elwood, Indiana. The 107th National Convention will be held July 8-12, 2015, at the Sheraton West DesMoines, Iowa. Jean Brower, Gamma Pi, New Paris, will be the Convention Coordinator.
