EATON — The Preble County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an animal cruelty investigation that occurred on Thursday, July 31 at the Preble County Fair.

4-H advisers reported that nine rabbits that were 4-H projects were found dead in their pins yesterday, according to Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson. All are reported to have been killed.

“This is believed to have occurred over a period of several hours throughout the day,” Simpson said in a news release Friday, Aug. 1.

The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 456-6262.

Rabbits were the only animals involved yesterday.

“There were rumors and speculation that other animals on the grounds had been involved. This was quickly determined not to be true,” Simpson said.

4-H clubs on the fairgrounds watched over animals last night and extra deputies were provided for additional security to assist in making sure no additional problems occurred.
