EATON — The Knights of Columbus Council #3698, donated 30 school backpacks to the Once Around Shop operated by Graceworks Lutheran Services. The Knights support charitable causes in Preble County as well as helping around their home parish, Visitation Catholic Church.

Some of the local organizations helped by the Knights include, Preble County MRDD, Friends of Jefferson House, Whispering Christmas and Preble County Right to Life.

The Once Around Shop is another of those organizations. Shop manager Jenny McCarty really appreciates the donation this time of year. With school beginning in a little over a month, some families find their resources stretched to the limit. The Once Around Shop can help out those families ease some of that burden with the donations of school supplies.

McCarty says items like spiral notebooks, glue sticks, pens, pencils, folders and new backpacks are of great help. The greatest need is for large backpacks for grades 5 and up. According to McCarty, the larger backpacks (with a cargo area of roughly 20” x 24”) are necessary to carry the 3-ring binders and larger books used by older children.

The Once Around Shop is located at 113 S Cherry St. Store hours are weekdays (except Thursday) from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The shop is closed on Thursday and weekends. Donations are welcome from individuals or organizations.
