Grand jury issues indictments

EATON — Among those indicted by a Preble County grand jury on Monday, May 2, was a Verona couple arrested in April after investigators found a meth lab inside a residence which housed their family — including six children.

The children ranged in age from 3 years old to 16 years old, according to Sheriff Mike Simpson said. All were in the residence when investigators arrived at at 136 North Commerce Street in Verona.

David D. Haney, 39, of the North Commerce Street residence, was indicted last week on charges including illegal manufacture of drugs, illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, endangering children (six counts,) aggravated possession of drugs, aggravated trafficking in drugs, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and permitting drug abuse.

Tamara L. Smith, also of 136 North Commerce Street, was indicted on six counts endangering children and permitting drug abuse.

Sheriff’s deputies located and dismantled the methamphetamine lab on Wednesday, April 6. The meth lab was discovered in the basement of the home, according to Simpson, who said investigators found equipment and chemicals consistent with the manufacturing and processing of methamphetamine, as well as a significant amount of finished methamphetamine.

Other indictments handed up by the Preble County grand jury included:

Carlos Pena Rios, 7513, Mi Suerte Drive, Mission, Texas, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, with specification; Kara Nicole Estes, 225 W. Decatur Street, Eaton, possession of heroin, possessing drug abuse instruments, unauthorized use of a vehicle; Taylor Cassidy, 34 S. Second Street, Camden, domestic violence and resisting arrest.

Also: Kyle R. Lewis, 110 Deland Drive, Eaton, possession of heroin, aggravated possession of drugs, possessing drug abuse instruments; Natalie N. Imhoff, 129 W. Main Street, Verona, aggravated possession of drugs, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, petty theft; Zachary E. Lainhart, 3927 Conley Drive, West Alexandria, breaking and entering and petty theft.

Also: Betty Jo Osborn, 7586 Gratis-Jacksonburg Road, Gratis, trespass in a habitation and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia; Charma L. Buckley, 990 S. Barron St., 1, Eaton, felonious assault, aggravated assault, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, domestic violence; Robert Kelley III, 436 Little League Drive, Eaton, assault, resisting arrest, using weapons while intoxicated, aggravated menacing (two counts) with specification; and Jonathan Falkner, 220 Richmond Pike, Eaton, aggravated possession of drugs, possessing drug abuse instruments, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
