The Community Blood Drive held May 22 at the Eaton Church of the Brethren was a success, with 137 donors registering and 103 blood products collected which will be given to about 309 patients in area hospitals and will include cancer patients, open heart surgery, accident victims, gunshot injuries, premature babies and the list goes on.
Several donors received their Lifetime Donation Award for total blood donations, they included: James Pitcox-100 donations, Norma Gels-40 donations, Angela Swartz-30 donations, Mary Mckee-25 donations, Mark Piekutowski-20 donations, Stan Clark and Jorene Burgess- 10 donations each, and Ashley Curler-five donations.
Sharon Spitler, coordinator thanks all who registered to donate and the members of the Church of the Brethren for hosting the drive and supplying refreshments and working at the Donor Cafe.
A special thanks goes out to Ed and Judy King for the great job they did organizing the day. Other blood drives held in May were at Silfex, Inc., International Paper, and Vancrest to give their employees the opportunity to donate blood. June blood drives that are open to the public will be Wednesday, June 11, from 4-8 p.m. in Camden at the First Financial Bank parking lot on the Donor Coach, and in Lewisburg Monday, June 16, from 3:30-7:30 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church, 608 N. Commerce Street.
