The YMCA of Greater Dayton recently recognized Edie Steel as the Preble County YMCA Volunteer of the Year.
Steel’s involvement at the Preble County YMCA epitomizes the Y’s saying, “We can do so much more because of you,” according to officials.
“Her heart for helping others and her advocacy for making the Y available to all is an inspiration.”
Steel has served as a volunteer on the Preble Y Board for nine years. Last spring she organized a benefit concert featuring the Van Dells as a way to honor her late mother Carole, and all proceeds from the concert supported the Strong Kids Campaign. The concert was an overwhelming success and sold out weeks before the event.
“It was awesome to witness her organizing such a successful event for our Y - she worked hard and we are truly grateful for the amazing work she did to benefit others,” Director Josh Haynes said.
The Van Dells are doing another concert this spring on Saturday, April 26, at Eaton Community School’s Performing Arts Center.
“Edie is receiving this award for her hard work, dedication, and generous spirit. She personifies this honor, and we are so lucky to have her at our YMCA.”
The award was presented during the YMCA’s 143rd Annual Meeting at the David H. Ponitz Center at Sinclair in Dayton on March 13. The event raised over $22,000 for the YMCA’s Annual Campaign and consisted of a silent auction, dinner and a program where volunteers and staff were recognized for their contributions to the success of the YMCA of Greater Dayton.
