I am well into my eighties. On Jan. 20, I received a phone call from a person with an accent who said he was from Windows and there was a problem with my malware.
Being the technically challenged and trusting person I am, I followed his instructions so he could show me the problem. I was on the phone with him for 25 minutes, but finally told him to give me a phone number because I wanted to think about it. I immediately called my daughter-in-law who told me to shut down all my bank accounts.
I called Eaton Computer and the very nice man who came to clean it up said Windows would never call me. Yesterday I had a phone call from my sister who lives in Cape May, New Jersey. She was told this scam seems to be coming from the Midwest and targets the elderly who are not as used to computers. That’s me! So, if you get a call from a person with a foreign accent telling you there is a problem with your computer— hang up!
