Preble County Habitat for Humanity’s Women’s Build dedicated a home on Sunday, Feb. 15, to Mike and Tiffany Wood on North Franklin St., which proved to be an emotional experience.

The house, erected by the first Women’s Build in Preble County which was sponsored by Lowe’s, featured a group of women, although given instruction by men, who built the home themselves.

This particular project touched the hearts of those involved, as the group lost an integral member of their community this past November.

John Flora, the founder and director of the organization, lost his battle with cancer, leaving the members of the organization with the memory of his hard work and dedication to his projects. The numbers marking the house are significant to the members of Habitat for Humanity, as it was Flora’s duty to affix them to the house, soon to be a home.

The Wood family, extremely involved with the build, received the keys to their new home before their house was blessed in a candle ceremony.

Over the span of a year, women gathered to build the home, previously a stone slab, to show their dedication, hard work, and newly-learned skills.

The words of Helen Reddy were spoken at the dedication,”I am strong, I am invincible, I am woman.”
