TCN takes first place in Quiz Team contest

WEST ALEXANDRIA — After weeks of competition, the High School Academic Quiz Team season came to an end in mid-December.

At each quiz team match, students were asked questions in areas including: American Literature, Mathematics World History, Fine Arts, Life Science, World Geography, American Government, Physical Science, Current Events, and General Knowledge. The quiz team contest is designed to challenge students intellectually and build a desire to continue learning and competing.

Teams from 12 area schools faced off for the intellectual battle which ended on Thursday, Dec. 15, at Twin Valley South. Participating schools were: Ansonia, Arcanum, Bethel, Dixie, Eaton, Franklin-Monroe, Milton Union, Mississinawa, National Trail, Tri-County North, Twin Valley South, and Valley View.

All teams had a successful experience of learning, according to organizers with Preble County Educational Service Center, who thanked the coaches of each team for all their hard work, encouragement, and support. Coaches included Tyler Studebaker (Ansonia), Kevin Stanley (Arcanum), Mark Clute (Bethel), Barbara Streck (Dixie), Aaron Hemmert (Eaton), Rick Ingold (Franklin-Monroe), Mike Skiles (Milton Union), Dawn Collins (Mississinawa), Todd Alexander (National Trail), Sonja Hyer (Tri-County North) Missy Rieger (Twin Valley South) and Cindy Drabenstott (Valley View).

Thanks also went out to Twin Valley South for hosting the final match.

Trophies were awarded to first place winner, Tri-County North; 2nd place Eaton, third place Bethel, fourth place Twin Valley South, and fifth place Dixie (A team.) There was a tie for sixth place, with Milton-Union and Ansonia both receiving a trophy.

“A special thank you goes out to the parents and families of the students for your encouragement and support of your child’s learning through this activity,” coordinator Kathy Erbaugh of the Preble County Educational Service Center noted.

This event was coordinated by Daryl Michael and Erbaugh of the PCESC and sponsored by the Preble County ESC and the Preble County ESC Governing Board.
