Cornhole Tournament Stats

The winners have now been posted for the Christmas Lights Committee Second Annual Cornhole Tournament held Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Lakengren Marina. Twenty outstanding teams participated on that gorgeous sunny weekend. First Place winners: Dan Freshour and Dan Freshour, Jr. Second Place: Chris Hobbs and Greg Dougherty. The first place winners received $80 and the second place team $40. Both teams received a huge Winning Trophy and bragging rights.

The raffle went great guns and the gift card winners were: Chris Jimeuz, Olive Garden; Barry Walls, Chili’s Restaurant; Michele Kanzlemar, Buffalo Wild Wings; Rick McMahan, Karla McMahan & Matt Smith, AMC Movie gift cards; Curt Weinreter and Bob Stoner won Square Donut certificates. The 50/50 raffle winner was Barry Walls, who donated his winnings back to the CLC. With the tremendous success of the tournament, you can bank on it that there will be another Cornhole Tournament next year.

The Romance at the Radisson drawing will be held on Labor Day weekend, so you still have a chance to get that winning ticket from a Christmas Lights Committee member, or call Dave Cortner at 456-5028 to get yours.

Dave states the club still has imprinted hoodies still available for sale for those cool nights on the beach and around the campfire.

Did you hear bells jingling? Could it be the Grinch is returning to Lakengren for a repeat performance in December? Listen, I heard them again.

No More Casual Church

Reverend Gerry Sadai reports as he closes out his summer services at the Marina, Sugar Valley UMC would like to thank everyone that helped us be there this year. They had the joy of being able to worship outside for most of the summer. Gerry thanks the Lakengren community for the opportunity to bring this service close to home. And welcomes everyone to the church on Sept. 13m for their Annual Turkey Fry. They will serve 4:30 to 7 p.m. and the yumminess comes with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, and cranberries for the minimal price of only $9 per person, children at a reduced rate. Dessert is included in the price and homemade ice cream will be available for an extra donation.

Support Local Food Banks

Mike Bristow of Lakengren reports that the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints on Wayne Trace Road is collecting food by placing a big barrel within the lobby of the LPOA Office, 22 Lakengren Drive, to help feed the hungry. This FeedOhio Project was begun by Ohio’s First Lady Karen Kasich. Groups and/or individuals are encouraged to contact their local foodbanks and pantries to find out any specific things they may need. For a list of food items, please check the September edition of The Viking or you may call Mike Bristow at 937-336-5244.

Please note, do not donate homemade, home-canned, opened or outdated foods.

Musical Picnic

A & E Committee invites Lakengren residents to the Musical Picnic this Saturday, August 23rd at 2 p.m. at the Meadows at the Lodge. A & E will provide hot dogs along with Uncle Tim’s homemade potato chips. Just bring a side dish to share, your dinnerware, a beverage, and your lawn chairs. There will be some well-known local talent providing a wide variety of music or you can bring your own to play along with them. Singers are welcome, too. Family and friends are invited, and remember, it’s rain or shine.
