Fallen Heroes Dance


The Fourth Annual West Alexandria Firemen’s Association Dance is on the books for Saturday September 13th 2014, at the Old Twin Valley South High School. Tickets will go on Sale soon! We have shirts for the Event on sale now for $15 each. The dead line to order is Aug. 28. Message us on Facebook or stop by the fire house at 25 East Dayton Street to place your order.


TVS HS Marching Band


TVS Marching Band will march in the Pork Festival Parade, Saturday, Sept. 20, and will then march in their premiere competition at Hilliard Bradley Marching Band Invitational at 5 p.m. that same day. Saturday, Sept. 27, the Band will march at Northwestern Bandfest at 5 p.m. If you haven’t received your Community Band Calendar or Marching Band Cook Book, see Kathy Landwehr or call her at 937-839-4325.


American Legion


The Senior Fun Bunch will meet for old time Country and Western music every Thursday from 1-4 p.m. at American Legion Post 322, 1477 US 503 South. Coffee and snacks are provided and there is no cover charge. Featured Singers include Jack Fluty, Eddie Collett, Stoney Newman, Red King, Paul Boyd, Keith Brown, and Judy Lay. Guest singers welcome.


SAL Golf Tournament will be Sunday, Sept. 7, at Penn Terra Golf Course with an 8 a.m. tee-off. The tournament is limited to 25 four-person teams and the sign-up sheet is in the Canteen.


Come to Family Fun Day, Sunday, Sept. 14, from 1-6 p.m. for family, fun, food, music and games! Hamburgers and Hot Dogs provided. Legion Members are to bring salad dishes, SAL Members bring vegetable or casserole dishes, Auxiliary Members bring desserts and Social Members bring chips, pretzels, dips and salsa.


Ladies Auxiliary is participating in a 5k walk/run on Sept. 13 for the Wounded Warrior Project in Fairfield, Ohio. There is a can in the Canteen to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project. All proceeds that we collect will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project from our Legion at this race.


St. John Lutheran Church


“The Wonder of Owls” program was presented at St. John on Aug. 12 by the COPE Environmental Center from Centerville, Indiana. The audience learned about owls native to our area, their different habitats and owl calls.


Aug. 24, 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran in Lewisburg – Participants from the mission trip to Booneville, Arkansas will be sharing stories about their service and faith adventures. Last year members of Trinity met at St. John for this joint service so this year St. John members will travel to Trinity in Lewisburg for this service. Trinity’s worship is at 10:30 a.m.. The service will be followed by a carry-in. We look forward to this morning of celebration and sharing.


Aug. 31 - A 10 a.m. Outdoor Worship is scheduled and this is also Labor Day Weekend. Come in your work clothes to celebrate God’s work in your “labor”. Worship will begin at 10:00 a.m. that morning with a picnic carry-in following.


St. John Annual Ice Cream Social will be Saturday, Sept. 6 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Menu includes sandwiches, salads, soups, cake/pie and of course several varieties of yummy homemade ice cream all at reasonable prices. It would be sweet if you could join us for good food and fellowship!


Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church


SWELCA reported there were 90 ladies from many different churches in the area at Salem Lutheran Church for the Women of the ELCA Summer Splash in July. Thanks to all the ladies from the morning and evening circles at Salem who donated salads and desserts and to Brenda Wright, President of SWELCA, who organized this event.


Brenda Wright and Carolyn Lowry represented Salem at the ninth Women of the ELCA Triennial Gathering in Charlotte, NC, July 24-27. There were over 2600 ladies in attendance. Thanks to Brenda for driving over 1,000 miles to get four ladies, from this area, there and back safely.


Salem Women of the ELCA, Evening Circle are asking for new bars of any brand of bath soap. The 4 or 5 oz. bars are highly preferred in their original wrapping. These bars will be shipped to Lutheran World Relief which serves communities living in poverty overseas. A basket is provided for soap donations in the church library.


Salem’s Annual Ice Cream Social will be Aug. 23 from 4-7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall and will include drive-through service, available through the west side entrance. Featured, are eight flavors of homemade ice cream and homemade chicken and noodles, sandwiches, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad and homemade cakes and pies.


The annual Church Family Picnic and Rally Day will be Sunday, Aug. 24. Rally Day will begin at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast and to celebrate promotion to new classes during Sunday School. The Church Picnic will follow worship. For further information, phone Carol Lunsford at 937-839-4085.


LYO have rescheduled the Canoe Trip for Saturday, Aug. 23 at 9 a.m.


LYO will host a Family Bowling Outing at the Richmond 40 Bowl, Sunday, Sept. 7 meeting after worship at 12:45. Families may meet at the bowling alley at 1:30 p.m. There will be two games a piece at no cost for LYO members and one guest.


Fall Worship schedule will begin Sept. 7, with Sunday School beginning at 9:30 a.m. and Worship at 10:30 a.m.
