The date has been ser for the Gratis Days Festival on the streets in Downtown Gratis. “Happy H” Amusement will line the streets with rides, games and carnival foods such as funnel cakes, cotton candy and caramel apples. The dates are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday May 29, 30, and 31. All funds from this event will be used to celebrate the Gratis Bicentennial in 2017. The West Elkton Gratis Township Fire Association will put a message on their lighted reader board outside the Firehouse for a donation, birthdays, annuversary’s, etc. can be displayed. If interested, call the Firehouse at 937-787-3713 or 513-649-7309.
The free meal at the Gratis Church of the Bretheren is cancelled for January and February due to remodeling of the Fellowship Hall. Keep a watch with here and we will inform you when the meal returns, which is scheduled for March.
Gratis Eagles F.O.E. #4289 will host a benefit for Dave Ramsey 43 who is suffering from cancer. Dave’s son, Zach is a senior at Preble Shawnee. Dave is self-employed and needs assistance to pay bills. The event is scheduled for Feb. 22 and will include a Texas Hold ‘em at 3 p.m., dinner featuring pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, dessert, and chips from 6-8 p.m. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. Soccer Camp Planned
The Preble Shawnee Boys Soccer Team will host a one-day youth soccer camp on June 18 from 5-8 p.m. at the Preble Shawnee practice field. Jake Essig from Hunting for College will be on hand to run the camp along with the players and coaching staff from Shawnee. The fee is $25 and includes a camp t-shirt. Former Gratis resident and Fire Captain Art Springer is in critical condition on life support at Sycamore Hospital with the H1N1 flu. To members of the Phillipsburg Fire Department where Art is a current member, are selling t-shirts to assist in paying medical bills. The shirts are $20 each and can be ordered by going to Phillipsburg Fire’s website. They are also having an all-you-can eat fish or chicken dinner on Saturday, March 1 from 6-midnight. The third Saturday at the Masons Lodge above the Library on S. Main St. and the cost is $6. The fourth Saturday at the United Methodist Church on Lafayette St. and the cost is $6.
