Comedy ventriloquist

The libraries are closing out Summer Reading with performances by comedy ventriloquist Mike Hemmelgarn. He’ll take his show, which includes magic and balloons, to each of the seven library branches from July 20-23.

The ventriloquism show’s schedule follows:

Monday, July 20 at the West Manchester Branch at 3 p.m. and at the New Paris Branch at 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday, July 21 at the West Alexandria Branch at 3 p.m. and at the Camden Branch at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, July 22 at the Eaton Branch at 10 a.m. and at the West Elkton Branch at 2 p.m.

Thursday, July 23 at the Eaton Branch at 2 p.m. and at the Eldorado Branch at 5 p.m.

Crocheting with Kathy

Having problems with a crochet project? Want to learn something new? Join us the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month and our staff member Kathy will help you. Watch for special techniques and projects.

Novel Discussion Book/Movie Club

Join us at the Eaton Branch of Preble County District Library to discuss the book, “Tuesdays with Morrie.” The book/movie discussion will be Thursday, July 30 at 6:30 p.m., and we’ll have the Novel Discussion movie night a week earlier on Thursday, July 16 at 6:30 p.m.

Learn to research at the library

If you need to research anything from American history to UFOs, the library has a ton of reliable online databases, many available from home. Learn about all the databases your library card gives you access to at a class on Friday, July 17 at 2 p.m. at the West Alexandria Branch.

Would you like to get a handle on Microsoft’s popular word processing program? Sign up for the library’s free class on Microsoft Word 2010 to learn the basics. It’ll be Thursday, July 23 at the Eaton Branch.

Teen Marvel vs. DC

Play Marvel and DC apps on the iPad, debate your favorite superhero with other teens, and enjoy Marvel and DC crafts, challenges, and snacks. Teens in grades 6-12 can check out the Marvel vs. DC program at the Eldorado Branch on Tuesday, July 21 at 3 p.m.

Tween (8-12) Summer Reading programs

For kids ages 8-12, try something new each week at the Preble County District Library during Summer Reading! Find exact dates and locations at www.preblelibrary.org under the “Events” tab.

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs

Learn about native and invasive species of insects at the Eaton Branch Library. On Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m., Scott Trochelman will bring many species of bugs for all ages.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Have you ever wondered what your stuffed animals are doing when you’re not around? We’ll help you find out!

Children can come into the Eaton Branch Library on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 6:30 p.m. to hear a story, have a nighttime snack, complete a craft, and let their stuffed animal spend the night at the library!

The next day, children can pick up their animal and a book of all their friend’s adventures. Children of all ages can attend dressed in their pajamas.

*Make sure to not bring the animal your child sleeps with, as it will be at the library all night*

Grief recovery program

Get guidance to resolve loss issues and move beyond grief to a richer quality of life when Crossroads Hospice holds its 12-week grief recovery program at the PCDL Admin Office at 450 S. Barron St. in Eaton. The program will be Mondays from 6-8 p.m. from Aug. 10 through Oct. 26. Space is limited. Call 937-432-2305 or email [email protected] to sign up.
