PSWCD tree seedling sale under way

EATON — The Annual Tree Seedling Sale is now under way at the Preble Soil and Water Conservation District, taking place until Friday, March 25.

Species of trees offered this year include: Austrian Pine, White Pine, Colorado Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, Canaan Fir, Black Walnut, Bur Oak, White Oak, Shellbark Hickory, Black Gum, Ohio Buckeye, and Redbud. Shrub species available include: Silky Dogwood, Black Elderberry, Nannyberry, Ninebark, and Witch-Hazel. Jersey Knight asparagus and bittersweet ground cover are also available. These plants can be used for windbreaks, landscaping, reforestation, and wildlife habitat.

The 1 to 2-year-old seedlings are bare-rooted and sold in packages of five to ten plants, with prices ranging from $8 to $12 per package. The roots are dipped in a preservative gel to keep them moist and then placed in a plastic bag. The seedlings should be planted as soon as they are received.
