The annual Oktoberfest parade on Saturday, Oct. 8, kicked off the fun fall festival in West Alexandria. Following the parade, opening ceremonies included recognition of the West Alexandria Citizen of the Year and crowning of Oktoberfest royalty. Adeline “Addie” Wenger, 100, was named Citizen of the Year at the Oktoberfest festivities. Born March 10, 1916, she has four children, and lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was married for 54 years.

Joe and Sandy Shiml were also honored as Citizens of the Year for their 27 years of sponsoring the Antique Car Covered Bridge Run for the Oktoberfest weekend. The antique car covered bridge run was held on Sunday.

Members of the Alpha Kappa Sorority charter were honored for their organization which has supported the Village of West Alexandria for 75 years.
