Two die in fatal crash

MONROE TOWNSHIP — Two Lewisburg residents were killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck, Sunday, July 17.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers from the Dayton Post are investigating the double fatality which occurred on Wikel Road near Monroe-Central Road in Monroe Township, on Sunday, at approximately 5:37 p.m.

Both occupants of the motorcycle died at the scene.

Troopers reported, Thomas Krug, 49, from Lewisburg, “was operating an orange 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southwest on Wikel Road in Preble County. Ruth D. Krug, 45, was a passenger on the back of the motorcycle.”

According to reports, “Mr. Krug, failed to negotiate a curve and rode his motorcycle left-of-center, striking Joann Hoskins, 68, from Arcanum, who was operating a black 2004 Ford pickup truck, and who was operating northwest on Wikel Road.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Krug were wearing their helmets, and were ejected from the motorcycle, according to troopers. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by the Preble County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remained under investigation at press time.In an unrelated motorcycle crash on Saturday evening, July 16, a motorcyle operator ran into a combine at Wolf Road and U.S. 35 near West Alexandria.

According to the OSP, who had not released additional information at press time, the individual driving the motorcycle was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. The injured rider remained hospitalized, and the investigation continued, at press time.
