Story times

The West Alexandria Library has story time for ages 7 and under on Wednesday, June 20 at 1 p.m. Bring the kids for a story and a fun craft for Summer Reading!

Comedy juggler show

Preble County District Library is closing out the 2016 Summer Reading season with Comedy Juggler Matt Jergens, who will perform at each of the library’s seven branch locations. Matt mixes his incredible juggling talents with a comical style for an unforgettable performance. He’ll perform on:

Thursday, July 21 at the Eaton Library at 2 p.m. and at the West Elkton Library at 5 p.m.

Friday, July 22 at the Eaton Library at 10 a.m. and at the West Alexandria Library at 12:30 p.m.

Fun crafts for ages 8-12

Each week, a new program for ages 8-12 will be at each library. From July 18-21, we’ll have Popcorn Olympics. Programs are on the following schedule:

On Mondays, the tween program will be at the Eaton Library at 2 p.m.

On Tuesdays, it’ll be at the Eldorado Library at 1 p.m. and the New Paris Library at 3 p.m.

On Wednesdays, it’ll be at the West Alexandria Library at 2 p.m. and at the West Manchester Library at 4 p.m.

On Thursdays, it’ll be at the Camden Library at 1 p.m. and at the West Elkton Library at 3 p.m.

Summer Reading Wrap-Up

For kids and families, we’re wrapping up this Summer Reading season at the Eldorado, West Manchester, and New Paris Libraries with a party! The Eldorado Library’s party is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20 at 5 p.m. We’ll party at the West Manchester Library on Thursday, July 21 at 5 p.m. The New Paris Library will celebrate another Summer Reading season in the books on Monday, July 25 at 5:30 p.m.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Ever wonder what your stuffed animals do when you’re not around? We’ll help you find out! On Tuesday, August 9 at 6:30 p.m., the Eaton Library will have the Stuffed Animal Sleepover. Hear a story, have a nighttime snack, make a craft, and let your stuffed animal stay the night in the library! The next day, pick your animal up at the library and a book showing all the adventures. Children of all ages can come dressed in pajamas!

*Please do not bring the animal your child sleeps with, as it will be at the library all night.

Olympic games at the library

Play some library-themed Olympic games in August. On Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 5:30 p.m., the Camden Library will have a ‘Summer Olympics’ program for kids and families. The West Alexandria Library will host its ‘Library Olympics with DVD case-stacking, relay races, and more starting at noon on Saturday, Aug. 13.

Create, Explore, and More!

Jump into the Eaton Library’s different creative and exploratory stations on Saturday, Aug. 20 starting at 1:30 p.m. Some stations will include robotic Cubelets, edible architecture, and more. Drop in and have fun as a family. There’s something fun for everyone!

Teens (grades 6-12)

Henna Temporary Tattoos

Get a temporary tattoo on your arm or hand using henna, using dye from the henna tree! Make a design on your skin and stain the figures with henna dye. This program is for teens in grades 6-12, and you must have a signed permission slip to attend. Design your own Henna tattoo on Tuesday, July 19 at 3 p.m. at the West Alexandria Library.

Teen Movies

Close out this year’s Summer Reading programs with a couple of movie showings at the Eaton Library. For teens in grades 6-12, come to the library on Wednesday, July 20 at 3 p.m. or Friday, July 22 at 2 p.m. to catch a movie.

DIY Back to School Crafts

Get ready for classes at the Eaton Library on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 3:30 p.m. For teens in grades 6-12, we’ll have plenty of materials to deck out your school supplies, craft some school stuff from scratch, and we’ll even give away school supplies as door prizes! Registration is required for this program. Stop by the front desk at 301 N. Barron St. or call (937) 456-4331 to register.

Adults

Novel Discussion Book Club

Join us at the Eaton Branch of Preble County District Library for our monthly book discussion for adults. This month, we’ll meet Thursday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss “The Four Friends” by Robyn Carr. The Novel Discussion book club meets the third Thursday of every month.

Healthy U disease self-management

Does your long-term health condition affect your quality of life? Learn to make step-by-step plans to improve your health and regain control of your life at this six-week workshop. Learn strategies to deal with the stress, fatigue, pain, weight issues, and depression resulting from your long-term health condition. The workshops will be held on Wednesdays from July 27 through Aug. 31 from 1-3:30 p.m. We’ll meet at the Preble County District Library Administration Office at 450 S. Barron St. in Eaton.

Our adult programs this summer focus on exercising your mind, body, and spirit. Throughout July, we’ll explore this unique journaling technique.

Book a Librarian

Do you need help with your e-reader, resume and job search, Microsoft Office, the library’s electronic resources, or a basic computer issue? Get one-on-one help with these and a multitude of other issues with the library’s ‘Book A Librarian’ program. Our Reference Librarian will be at the West Alexandria Library on Wednesday, Aug. 10 from 2-4 p.m. Drop-in anytime for help. If you need help with a mobile device, like a tablet or smartphone, please bring the device.

Resume writing and job searching

Learn the ins and outs of creating a resume and filling out online job applications at this class from the Preble County District Library. On Saturday, Aug. 13 at 2 p.m., you can learn about job search essentials at the Eaton Library at 301 N. Barron St. There are no prerequisites for the class, but a valid personal email address is preferred. Call (937) 456-5562 or visit the Eaton Library to register.

You can also catch the same class at the New Paris Library on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 3 p.m. Call (937) 437-7242 to reserve a spot for that class.

Quilting history

It’s not just Grandma’s quilt anymore: you can learn the history of quilts and quilting at the Eaton Library on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. Deb Crumbaker, avid quilter and member of the PC Genealogical Society and Daughters of the American Revolution, will take us on a journey into the rich and colorful history of quilting.
