COLUMBUS — In the District 8, special general election to elect a Representative to Congress to fill John Boehner’s unexpired term which ends Jan. 3, 2017, Republican Warren Davidson took the win with nearly 77 percent of the vote district-wide.

Voters went to the polls to decide on Tuesday, June 7.

Davidson’s fellow candidates, Janes Condit Jr. of the Green Party and Democrat Corey Foister took 2.15 percent and 21.05 percent respectively. Over 28, 045 votes were cast in Ohio according to the unofficial results provide by the Ohio Secretary of State’s office. Davidson took 21,537 of the votes, Corey Foister received 5,904 and Condit Jr., 604.

In Preble County, unofficial results show only 1,979 total votes were cast — and Davidson received 1,612 of them (81.46 percent.) Condit received 49 votes and Foister 318.

Butler County voters went to vote in greater numbers: unofficial numbers show 11,646 votes were cast there. Davidson received 8,461 (72.65 percent) of those votes, while Foister received 2,921 and Condit 264.

Wisconsin 1st District Congressman and Speaker of the House, Republican Paul Ryan released the following statement on Warren Davidson’s victory Tuesday night:

“Congratulations to my newest colleague, Congressman-elect Warren Davidson. I look forward to seeing Warren and meeting his family later this week when he’s sworn in as the 247th member of the House Republican Conference. We know Warren is a strong conservative leader – but he is also a small business owner. He understands first-hand the impact of an overbearing federal government. He will serve Ohio’s 8th Congressional District well, just as he served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S Army. I speak on behalf of all my colleagues in saying: Welcome Warren, we look forward to working with you to get our country back-on-track.”

As winner of the June special election to finish out Boehner’s unexpired term, Davidson will need to run for reelection in November.

Ohio’s 8th district includes all of Butler, Clark, Darke, Miami and Preble counties, and the southern portion of Mercer County.
