WEST ALEXANDRIA — Voters in Village of West Alexandria will see on their March 15 Primary Election ballot two local tax levies: one an additional 2 mills for permanent improvements at Twin Valley Community Local Schools, and the other an additional 3 mills to support the West Alexandria Fire/EMS.

According to the official ballot language, the fire levy is for the “purpose of providing and maintaining fire apparatus, appliances, buildings, or sites therefor, or sources of water supply and materials therefore, or the establishment and maintenance of lines of fire alarm telegraph, or the payment of firefighting companies or permanent, part-time, or volunteer firefighting, emergency medical service, administrative, or communications personnel to operate the same, including the payment of any employer contributions required for such personnel under section 145.48 or 742.34 of the Revised Code, or the purchase of ambulance equipment, or the provision of ambulance, paramedic, or other emergency medical services operated by a fire department or firefighting company at a rate not exceeding 3 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to $0.30 for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for continuing period of time, commencing in 2016, first due in calendar year 2017.”

The continuing levy would bring in an estimated $52,000 per year. If approved, residents with a property value of $80,000 would pay $84 per year, according to officials. The funds will help with the construction of a new station for the recently merged fire and EMS.

The tax measure for Twin Valley CLSD is an additional tax “for the purpose of permanent improvements at a rate not exceeding 2 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to $0.20 for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for 5 years, commencing in 2016, first due in calendar year 2017,” according to the official ballot language.
