TVS BOE appoints president, discusses levy

WEST ALEXANDRIA — The Twin Valley Community Local Board of Education held an organizational meeting paired with their regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 11.

They used the organizational meeting to appoint Jim Pemberton as the board president, Mike Randolph as vice president, Jason DeLong as the 2016 legislative liaison, Tim Beneke as the 2016 student achievement liaison, and Sean Maggard as the 2016 district athletic council liaison.

The board also continued discussions about a Permanent Improvement Levy. The school is currently working with the county auditor on the process. The current bond and maintenance levy is 2.826771 mills and is set to expire at the end of 2016. The proposed levy is for 2 mills on residential and agricultural property.

According to the Twin Valley South School Levy Facebook page, under the current millage, the tax is $98.33 per $100,000. With the proposed levy, the tax will be $70 per $100,000.

The board also briefly discussed updates made to the OSBA Policy, citing updates in wording as well as cross and legal references to several transportation policies.

Twin Valley Bank presented a check to the board which covered the cost of new scoreboards for the gymnasium as well.

During the regular meeting, the board also approved the hiring of Robert Fischer as the new superintendent effective Aug. 1, and as the administrative assistant from Jan. 1 through July 31.

In other business, the board approved member compensation at $80 per meeting (not to exceed 24 meetings;) set the board service fund of $3,000 for 2016; set the bond for Treasurer at $50,000 effective until the organizational meeting of 2017; set the faithful performance bond for 2016 with Westfield Insurance Company in the amount of $10,000 per person for the board, administrators, and the athletic director; set the mileage at the IRS rate (.54 cents per mile, currently); appointment of the superintendent as the 2016 purchasing agent for the district, and appointment of Superintendent Clint Moore as the 2016 Title IX Compliance Officer.

The Twin Valley Community Local Board of Education meets on the fourth Monday of every month inside the Media Center at the school starting at 6:30 p.m.
