EATON — On Monday, Nov. 9, Preble County Commissioners noted receipt of bids from Preble County Sanitation Engineer Randy Gilbert for the construction of a new building at the Preble County Landfill — and rejected all four bids received.

Commissioner Denise Robertson said during the meeting she believes the building needs to be smaller, noting Gilbert had been using the same dollar amount for a year and a half. “It’s not up to me to figure out what needs cut, it’s up to him to figure out what can be cut,” Robertson said. She continued by suggesting the elimination of some offices in the plan.

Commissioner Rodney Creech noted, “The price kept coming down but the building never changed,” and echoed Robertson by saying Gilbert should be the one to decide what is removed from the building plans.

A motion to reject the bids was passed unanimously by the Commissioners.

The bids were rejected because all four bids exceeded the $928,000 limit which was based on the estimate provided by the Preble County Engineers Office. Bids were not to exceed 10 percent of the estimate given by the Engineers Office.

In other business:

Commissioners approved three amended certificates; two for Children Services for $100,000 and $21,439.60 and for $1,130.60 for the Undivided Hotel Lodging Tax.

Commissioners passed resolution 645 authorizing the payment of $4,812.05 to Help Me Grow, $1,590.05 for the Preble County Sheriff, $1,200 for Commission and $4,289.25 for Children Services.

Commissioners noted receipt of three legal ads for zoning cases, zoning case numbers 1394, 1395 and 1396 to be heard on Wednesday, Dec. 2.

Commissioners approved travel requests for two workers at Children Services, not to exceed the cost of $10 each.

Commissioners approved an additional transfer of $100,000 to Children Services.
