CAMDEN — A Camden man died as a result of being struck by a train in the village on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

According to Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson, his office investigated the crash involving a train and a pedestrian at approximately 4:50 a.m. last Tuesday morning in Camden. The victim was identified as 25-year-old Curtis D. Angel.

Simpson said preliminary investigation indicated that the Norfolk Southern freight train was traveling north through the village. Train personnel observed a subject laying between the track rails, just south of the Ohio 725 crossing, Simpson reported. The pedestrian later identified as Angel, was struck by the train.

Camden Fire & EMS as well as a Lifeline medical helicopter responded to the scene, Simpson said. Angel was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crossing at Ohio 725 remained closed for approximately 2 ½ hours while deputies and officials from Norfolk & Southern Railroad conducted their investigation. The victim was removed to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, where an autopsy was to be performed last week.

The crash remained under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Preble County Coroner’s Office at press time.
