PS Board approves graduating class

CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee High School graduation will be held on Friday, May 26. During a PS Board of Education meeting on Thursday, May 11, the board approved the graduating class of 2017, subject to the completion of all state of Ohio and Preble Shawnee Local Board of Education requirements.

Preble Shawnee’s last day for students will be May 24.

The board approved a contract with Strategic Solutions. The pricing for the first year is $6,070 and pricing for the second year and beyond is $10,603.75. They are offering a 50 percent discount in the first year and 25 percent for the second year and beyond.

The board approved a contract with Preble County ESC for the 2017-2018 school year.

The board noticed an error in a certified staff contract and had to make an amendment. They amended Erin Schaar’s three-year teaching contract to a two-year teaching contract effective 2017-2018 school year.

Mary Frasher, Food Service Head Cook at West Elkton, is retiring effective May 31.

The board approved overnight trips for FFA students. Both a Hueston Woods Officer Retreat on May 29-31 and the FFA Camp Muskingum Leadership in Carrollton from June 5-9 were approved.

Board member Emily Hamblin broached the topic of weighted classes, which Superintendent Matt Bishop resolved to look into.

In other news:

Board members approved the advance from General Fund to Food Service in the amount of $2,000.

Board members approved the district’s five-year financial forecast.

The next Board of Education meeting will be held on June 29 at 6 p.m. in the Preble Shawnee Board of Education office.
