Day of Caring Pancake Brunch
A pancake brunch to help the needy, a project of the Day of Caring 365, will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26, at Eaton United Church of Christ. One hundred percent of all ticket sales go to local homeless services. The Bistro at Eagle’s Point is sponsoring an extended menu, and those who attend will get to sample biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and hash browns prepared by the Bistro at Eagle’s Point’s chef, Tom Kinne and learn about the new Pay It Forward restaurant coming soon to Preble County. Meals will be served from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the church located at 113 W. Decatur Street. Adult donation is $6; senior citizens and children under 12, $4.
Humane society wish list
The Humane Society of Preble County is always in need of the following items: cat litter (scoopable or non-scoopable), dry kitten food, canned puppy food, Clorox bleach, liquid Lysol or Fabuloso, liquid laundry detergent, air freshener, trash bags (33 gallon or tall kitchen bags), large Nyla bones and fabric softener sheets for dryers. Drop off these much-needed items to the shelter during operating hours. The Humane Society of Preble County is located at 951 S. Barron St, Eaton.
Park District meeting
The Preble County Park District has changed its March meeting to Friday, March 17, at 9 a.m. in the Eaton City Building on Maple St., Eaton. The public is welcome to attend.
Relay for Life set
The Preble County Relay for Life this year will be Saturday, June 10, from 3 p.m-midnight at the Preble County Fairgrounds. Organizational meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m., at Bruce Elementary School in Eaton. Anyone interested in forming a team for this family event and raising money for cancer research is invited to attend the meetings or call 937-733-9534 for additional details. This event allows everyone in the community to celebrate those who have survived, grieve for those lost to cancer and empower others to fight back against a disease that takes too much.
The regular monthly meetings of the Preble County Educational Service Center Governing Board will be held the fourth Wednesday of each month, with noted exceptions, at the PCESC facility located at 597 Hillcrest Drive, Eaton, at 5:30 p.m. Meeting dates are: Feb. 22, March 22, April 26 (at the ESC Alternative School;) May 24, June 28, July 26, Aug. 16 (moved to the third Wednesday;) Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 15 (third Wednesday;) Dec. 15 (fourth Friday, time changed to 3:30 p.m.)
Hollingsworth East Elementary in Eaton, will hold kindergarten registration for the 2017-2018 school year, March 6-9. When registering, parents are required to bring their child’s birth certificate, immunization record, proof of residency, driver’s license or state ID card of custodial parent, and any custody documents that apply. Children must be five years of age prior to August 1, 2017, to enroll. Registration hours are: March 6 and 8, from 9-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3 p.m. Evening registration will take place on Tuesday and Thursday, March 7 and 9, from 4-6:30 p.m. Parents may call the school office at 937-456-5173 with questions about kindergarten registration.
The Preble County Schools Regional Council of Governments will be meeting on Tuesday, March 20, at 9 a.m., at the Preble County Educational Service Center, 597 Hillcrest Drive, Eaton. The purpose of the meeting is to review insurance programs and any other business that needs brought before the COG at that time.
The Board of Education of the College Corner Local School District will meet in special session on March 7, at 6 p.m. in the board of education meeting room at the College Corner Union School, 230 Ramsey Street, College Corner, Ohio.
PSWCD scholarship available
The Preble Soil and Water Conservation District is once again offering a $1,000 college scholarship to a resident of Preble County entering his or her sophomore year or above at an accredited college. Students pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in the field of agriculture or natural resources and who are registered for classes in fall 2017 are eligible. NT Alumni Car Show
The National Trail Alumni Car Show is scheduled for Saturday, April 15, at National Trail High School, 6940 Oxford-Gettysburg Rd., New Paris. Top 20 and dash plaques will be awarded. All makes and motorcycles welcome. Registration will be from 10 a.m.-noon. Awards will be distributed at 3 p.m. All proceeds go toward alumni scholarships. PS BOE meeting
The Preble Shawnee Board of Education has scheduled a work session for Feb. 16, at 8:30 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Preble Shawnee Board of Education Offices, 124 Bloomfield St., Camden. The regular February meeting will follow at 4 p.m.
