Classes teach how to ‘get ahead’

EATON — In February, Head Start of Preble County will be offering “Getting Ahead” classes for any family in the county. These classes are geared toward improving life skills for families to reach new financial, parenting and community goals. There will be a trained Family Service Worker facilitating each two hour class, which includes workbooks and all materials. Twelve people will be asked for a 15-week commitment starting in February. “Getting Ahead” offers participants a way out of poverty, according to officials.

Currently, there is no funding for the program. Butler County ESC has provided the trained facilitator and all written materials. Area businesses and investors are being asked for donations to provide gift card incentives for each participant. “Getting Ahead” believes in showing participants a way to become self-sufficient and do more than just “get by.”

The class will explore the “hidden rules” of class and develop resources to see the difference a small amount can make on a personal budget. Anyone able to partner in helping others will have a logo or name, as a sponsor, on flyers and outreach materials throughout the Preble County community.

To become a sponsor, contact Christi Reveal with Preble County Head Start at 513-267-0019.

The workshop will start on Feb. 17 and continue every Tuesday from 9-11 a.m. Snacks, childcare, and gift cards will be provided for participants. To sign up contact Amanda at 937-452-1090. Pre-registration is required for the program.
