EATON — July is National Ice Cream Month. In honor of the sweet month,, organizations and churches all over Preble County are holding ice cream socials and events through the month.
One such event was held Friday, July 8, at the Preble County Council on Aging Senior Center. The event started at 10 a.m. and hosted delicious ice cream for everyone who wanted the treat.
“This month is ‘Senior Scream For Ice Cream’ and the history of ice cream today,” said Stacy Copes who works with the Senior Center. “We have several other events on ice cream going on as well, so they are getting ice cream all month, and our seniors just love ice cream. The history is, well it’s funny, that there is no an actual origin of who started ice cream first. So today we are learning about what is said, where we think it may have started; the Chinese or the Romans or where it was and how it came to America.”
The Council of Aging will have an ice cream social on Friday, July 22, and will have all types of ice cream. Guests are welcome to eat ice cream all day.
“We want to socialize with our seniors which is a priority here, and we want to help reach out to seniors who are in rural areas or are in places where they cannot get out easily because of their isolation,” Copes added.
The Council on Aging will also have another ice cream event on July 26, where they will have root beer floats with their ice cream.
