Miami to award 3,889 degrees: Sir Ken Robinson keynote speaker

OXFORD – Sir Ken Robinson, internationally acclaimed expert on creativity, will speak at Miami University’s spring commencement ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Yager Stadium. Miami will award 3,889 degrees.

Robinson has worked with governments and education systems around the world. He led a national commission on creativity, education and the economy for the UK and was the central figure in developing a strategy for creative and economic development as part of the Peace Process in Northern Ireland.

Robinson’s TED talks have been viewed a record-breaking number of times. His talk, “Do Schools Kill Creativity?” has reached 37 million viewings, making it the single most watched TED video in the organization’s history.

He is the author of The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything, a New York Times best-seller, and Creative Schools: The Grassroots Revolution That’s Transforming Education, which was released last year.

Miami President David Hodge will preside over the ceremony. Degrees to be awarded include 60 certificates, 125 associates, 3,372 bachelor’s, 319 master’s and 13 doctorates.

During the ceremony, doctoral candidates will be individually recognized and hooded; master’s degree candidates will be individually recognized; bachelor’s and associate degree candidates will be recognized by division; and ROTC candidates will be commissioned.

Commencement will be held rain or shine. However, if severe weather is predicted, the ceremony may be shortened and/or canceled. Information on the status of the ceremony will be broadcast on 88.5 FM and 91.7 FM and online at www.miamioh.edu.

All bags will be checked upon entering the stadium for the ceremony. Guests are asked to arrive early and leave all nonessential items in locked vehicles. More information can be found online at http://miamioh.edu/commencement/.

• 7:30 p.m., Millett Hall, College of Arts and Science, Marne Levine (Miami ’92), Instagram’s first chief operating officer.

Sunday, May 15

• 9:30 a.m., Millett Hall, College of Education, Health, and Society, Danielle Linowes, graduating senior and early childhood education major.

• 10 a.m., Goggin Ice Center, College of Creative Arts, Daniel Levy (Miami ’84), composer, educator and multi-instrumentalist.

• 2 p.m., Miami University Middletown, College of Professional and Applied Sciences, Mike Rohrkemper (Miami ’74), former president/CEO of Gold Star Chili.
