Summer Reading!

Sign up at your local library branch for some free reading gear, and start reading for a chance to win cool stuff. There are programs for children, teens, and adults. Keep track of your reading this summer, and win prizes! Each branch has Summer Reading-themed entertainment scheduled. View the full schedules at www.preblelibrary.org under the “Events” tab.

Free online classes

Did you know your library card gives you access to hundreds of free online self-paced classes? If you’ve ever wanted to learn cake decorating, flower arranging, or any of hundreds other subjects, come to the Eaton Branch of Preble County District Library on Saturday, July 11 at 1 p.m. You’ll learn how to use the library’s online education portal, Universal Class. Call 937-456-5562 to register for the class.

Learn to research at the library

If you need to research anything from American history to UFOs, the library has a ton of reliable online databases, many available from home. Learn about all the databases your library card gives you access to at a class on Friday, July 17 at 2 p.m. at the West Alexandria Branch.

Microsoft Word 2010 class

Would you like to get a handle on Microsoft’s popular word processing program? Sign up for the library’s free class on Microsoft Word 2010 to learn the basics. It’ll be Thursday, July 23 at the Eaton Branch.

Teen Comic Book Wallets

Craft it up by making a comic book wallet. Use comic book art (and popular FANDOM art!) to make a unique wallet out of paper, packing tape, and duct tape. Get fancy and add pockets! Also, eat snacks!

Teen Marvel vs. DC

Play Marvel and DC apps on the iPad, debate your favorite superhero with other teens, and enjoy Marvel and DC crafts, challenges, and snacks. Teens in grades 6-12 can check out the Marvel vs. DC program at:

Tween (8-12) Summer Reading programs

For kids ages 8-12, try something new each week at the Preble County District Library during Summer Reading! Find exact dates and locations at www.preblelibrary.org under the “Events” tab.

July 6-9: Superhero Bracelet.

July 13-16: Spy Codes.

July 20-13: Create a Mini-Comic.

Lego Contest (ages 5-12)

Show your Lego skills at the West Alexandria Branch on Saturday, July 11 at noon. Kids ages 5-12 can participate. Prizes will be awarded for the top Lego creation in each of four age groups (5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12). You must bring your own Lego blocks, and all Legos must be taken apart prior to the one-hour build time.

Animal Safety

Join us at the Eaton Branch of Preble County District Library for a series on animal safety, presented by the Wags and Whiskers 4-H club.

In their final program, Wags and Whiskers will bring a golden retriever named Zach on July 9 at 6 p.m. to the library.

Program is for ages 2-12.

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs

Learn about native and invasive species of insects at the Eaton Branch Library. On Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m., Scott Trochelman will bring many species of bugs for all ages.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Have you ever wondered what your stuffed animals are doing when you’re not around? We’ll help you find out!

Children can come into the Eaton Branch Library on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 6:30 p.m. to hear a story, have a nighttime snack, complete a craft, and let their stuffed animal spend the night at the library!

The next day, each child can pick up their animal and a book of all their friend’s adventures. Children of all ages can attend dressed in their pajamas.

*Make sure to not bring the animal your child sleeps with, as it will be at the library all night*
