LEWISBURG — Four seasons in one day! What a feat! Isn’t it amazing that we can enjoy the beautiful blue skies and warmth only to move to grey skies and blustery winds to rain and blizzard like snow conditions. All in one day! It seems like we have had quite a few of those kind of days. Never fear—spring is near! The question is “when?”

Bicentennial 2018

Our area had no doctors before 1830. Homemade remedies were used for everything from Malaria (“chills”) to Diptheria and “Milk Sickness”. They were concocted from local herbs, roots, nuts and bark. Childbirth was often fatal to both the mother and the baby since there were only inexperienced midwives present at the birth. Tombstones in local cemeteries tell the story with one man having two, three, or sometimes four wives in his lifetime.

Judy and Janet, Where Are You?

Thank you for asking where we have been. We have been quite busy and sometimes forget what day it is. Retirement is supposed to slow us down but we have kicked it out of neutral and have found ourselves in drive.

After a discouraging eye appointment revealed that my eyes had aged, I had to have cataract surgery on both eyes. Not my eyes, I said. However in three weeks, I have had an eye appointment and two surgeries. I can see all the way to Columbus and Indianapolis but can’t read anything in front of me. Glasses will follow up within the next month. It’s amazing that within seven minutes, one can have new eyes.

In closing

“Motivation is the art of getting people to do what you want them to do because they want to do it!” Dwight D. Eisenhower Lewisburg is blessed to have many motivated people who volunteer because they want to see our Village prosper. Thank you ‘Burgers for all that you do each day, week and year. There is spirit; there is grace in our peaceful country place.

Until next week …
