PCHS to hold annual meeting

EATON — The Preble County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting on Sunday, April 10, at the Preble County Historical Society, 7693 Swartsel Rd., Eaton, beginning at 2 p.m.

All Preble County Historical Society members are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served following the meeting and there will be an open house.

The guest speaker will be David Simmons. Simmons is senior editor of TIMELINE, a popular history journal published by the Ohio History Connection. Previously, he directed the process for listing properties on the National Register of Historic Places in the Ohio Historic Preservation Office. The Darke County native received several writing awards for excellence in industrial archaeology and serves as president of the Ohio Historic Bridge Association. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Miami University in Oxford.

His first professional job was as executive director of the Preble County Historical Society.

His presentation “Roberts Covered Bridge: From the Hudson Valley to the Ohio & From Kindling to Marriage” will explore the history and construction of the Roberts Bridge in Preble County.

Once again this year, the following service awards will be presented: Years of Service Award; Sara Swartsel Volunteer of the Year Award and the Business of the Year Award.
