Kids and Families:

Winter Storytime registration now open

You can sign up for Winter Storytime sessions at the Eaton Library right now. Be sure to sign up early, as spots are limited. Each section lasts six weeks, and there are sections geared to age groups from six months to 12 years. The winter session of storytime will run from Jan. 6 through Feb. 11.

Tween Filmmakers Club Workshop

Want to make a live-action short movie? In January, the Tween Filmmakers Club will learn to create scripts, act out scenes, use a green screen, edit film, and much more! Sign up at the Eaton Library or call 937-456-4331 to register for the program. We’ll meet every Saturday in January from 1-2:30 p.m. When it’s all finished, we’ll have a viewing party for families on January 30 at 1 p.m. The Filmmakers Club is for ages 8-12.

Homeschool Hour: Reptiles (Location changed for December)

Join us as we learn about electricity in this hands-on program! Homeschool Hour is geared to students ages 8-12 but is open to all homeschool students and their educators. January’s Homeschool Hour will be Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. at the Library Administrative Office Meeting Room at 450 S. Barron St. in Eaton.

Read away the winter blues

The West Alexandria Library will reward you for reading every day in January! For kids age 12 and under, read each day, and keep track on our form. For each week you complete, you’ll earn a candy bar, and if you read every day in January, you can take home a book of your choice!

Teens (grades 6-12):

Teen Creative Writing Group

Local teens can spur their creative juices at the Teen “Write On!” writing club. We’ll have creative writing prompts, snacks, and you can talk with other teens about writing. You can share aloud, but you don’t have to.

Join us on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 3:30 p.m. at the Eaton Branch Library (301 N. Barron St.).

Super Mario Course Maker Challenge

Have you played Super Mario Maker on the Wii U? You’ll have a chance at the Eaton Library on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 3:30 p.m. We’ll be playing Super Mario Maker for our Course Maker Challenge. You’ll create your own course, we’ll play all the courses, and vote on our favorites. The maker of the most-loved course will receive a prize box. We’ll also have snacks and prizes for everyone!

Tabletop Games

Play awesome tabletop games, like Marvel Memory, Zombie-opoly, Zelda Yahtzee, and more at the library! Library branches will host tabletop gaming programs in January and February. See when the program is heading to your local library:

Anime Club

Watch anime, eat popcorn, try some Japanese snacks, and make anime/manga-inspired crafts at the Eaton Library’s monthly meeting of the Teen Anime Club. The next meeting is Jan. 5 at 3:30 p.m. Arrive early to ensure a spot, as seating is limited.

Teen Advisory Board

What kind of teen programs do you want at your library? Come to the Teen Advisory Board meeting on Friday, Jan. 29 at 3:30 p.m. Help plan the spring 2016 Eaton Library programs and the Teen Summer Reading programs for 2016. We’ll give you pizza and snacks for your brilliant ideas!

Novel Discussion Book Club

Join us at the Eaton Branch of Preble County District Library for our monthly book discussion. This month, we’ll meet Thursday, Jan. 21 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss “The Traveler’s Gift” by Andy Andrews. The Novel Discussion book club meets the third Thursday of every month.

Adult Crafting: Holiday Ornaments

During December, we’ll be crafting holiday ornaments at your local library branch. Make something to take home or give away to someone special this season. The holiday ornament craft will be at each library on the following dates and times:

Downton Abbey Tea Parties

Celebrate the return of the popular television series Downton Abbey with a tea party! We’ll have tea and crumpets and discuss the show. Join us Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 4 p.m. at the West Manchester Branch or Thursday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. at the Eldorado Branch.

Adult Crafting: Perpetual Calendar

It’s a new year, and you’ll need a new calendar. During January, you can make the last calendar you’ll ever need at the Preble County District Library branches. We’ll be using nuts and bolts to make a perpetual calendar. All supplies are provided. Make your calendar at:

Be a kid again

Why should the kids get to have all the fun? The year, the West Alexandria Library will present a few programs to remind adults of their childhood. The first one is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m., and we’ll be coloring some adult coloring books. We’ll have crayons, markers, and colored pencils for an hour of coloring.
