Wild Hearts Zoo

The Wild Hearts Zoo will be holding free programs at some of the Preble County District Library branches in November. This fun and educational wildlife program will allow children of all ages to learn about and touch reptiles, bugs, and mammals from the natural world.

Catch the program at the following dates, times, and library locations:

Saturday, Nov. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the New Paris Branch

Saturday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Eaton Branch

Monday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the West Manchester Branch

Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Eldorado Branch

Saturday, Nov. 21 at 12 p.m. at the West Alexandria Branch

Night Owl Prowl genealogy lock-in

Bring a snack to share as the Preble County Room hosts another Night Owl Prowl. From 5-10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, make use of the thousands of research resources available at Preble County District Library’s genealogy department. Staff will be on hand for free research assistance.

Homeschool Hour – Trees

If you’re a homeschool student, don’t miss out on the library’s monthly Homeschool Hour. Are you interested in robots and how they work? We’ll learn all about robots during Homeschool Hour on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. The class is at the Library Administration Office meeting room at 450 S. Barron St. in Eaton.

Disney Family Fun Night

Get a photo with some of your favorite Disney characters, as well as games, prizes, refreshments, and much more at the Eaton Library! The Disney-themed Family Fun Night is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. It’s a family program, and you’re encouraged to come dressed as your favorite Disney characters!

Tween Craft: Scratch Art CD

Kids age 8-12 can create an unusual work of art with recycled CDs and paint. We’ll scratch the paint off in various designs to create a rainbow reflection! Take part in the craft on the following dates and times:

Teen Creative Writing Group

Local teens in grades 6-12 can spur their creative juices at the Teen “Write On!” writing club. We’ll have creative writing prompts, snacks, and you can talk with other teens about writing. You can share aloud, but you don’t have to!

Join us on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 3:30 p.m. at the Eaton Branch Library (301 N. Barron St.).

Teens: Halloween Cosplay Accessories

Teens in grades 6-12 can make some spooky and creepy Halloween cosplay accessories at four branches during October. We’ll have plenty of snacks and you’ll make a candy test tube to take home. The program will be at the following libraries:

Eldorado Branch on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 4:30 p.m.

Teen Anime Club

If you’re into anime, check out the Eaton Branch Library on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 3:30 p.m. We’ll watch anime, eat popcorn, try some Japanese snacks, and make anime- and manga-inspired crafts. The Anime Club is for teens in grades 6-12

Super Smash Bros. 8-player Smash

Play 8-player Super Smash Bros. on the library’s Wii U console on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 3:30 p.m. All teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to participate. Every player will get a prize, and the top player will win a Pikachu hat!

Splatoon Tournaments!

Have you played the virtual paintball video game Splatoon for the Wii U? For teens in grades 6-12, you can play in the library’s Splatoon tournaments! Come enjoy some snacks and play Splatoon with friends! Every player gets a prize, and the tournament winner will take home a squid hat! Catch the Splatoon Tournament at:

Novel Discussion Book Club

Join us at the Eaton Branch of Preble County District Library for our monthly book discussion. This month, we’ll meet Thursday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss “Angels Watching Over Me” by Michael Phillips. The “Novel Discussion” book club meets the third Thursday of every month.

Adult Crafting: 3D Seasonal Greeting Cards

Make some custom greeting cards that really pop this holiday season. In the library’s November adult craft, we’ll be creating some unique 3D greeting cards. Check out the craft at any of the following branches:

Basic Microsoft Excel class

Microsoft’s popular spreadsheet software, Excel, is used on computers around the world for tracking finances, creating invoices, making charts for presentations, and much more. Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel 2013 in a free class at the Eaton Branch Library on Monday, November 2 at 4 p.m.

Family Fun Night

Come to the New Paris Branch Library on Monday, Nov. 2 at 5:30 p.m. for our Family Fun Night! We’ll have a craft the whole family can make, and we’ll have snacks!

Digital magazine class

Did you know you can get digital versions of popular magazines with your library card? There’s no due date, and when you check them out, the issue is yours to keep. The service is called Zinio, and you can learn how to use it to read magazines on your computer, tablet, or phone in a free class at the Eaton Branch Library. The class will be Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. Call (937) 456-5562 to register.
