Deaton was the only track and field team member from National Trail to advance to the state meet in both 2013 and 2014.

This is the third time Deaton competed at state in discus and the first time she competed at state in shot put.

Last year, Deaton finished fifth in the state in discus with a throw of 136-06.

Trail coach John Lickfelt said Deaton is a hard-working athlete.

“Overall, she is a very coachable kid,” Lickfelt said. “She’s a natural athlete and the work she puts in is unparalleled. She wants it.”

Deaton will be attending Ohio State Universtity next year where she will be a field athlete. The state track and field meet was at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at Ohio State.

“It will be cool to leave off where I’m going to pick up next year,” Deaton said.
