West Alexandria Fire Department, 25 E. Dayton Street, West Alexandria, Saturday, April 5, 8-11 a.m.
Come see us at the firehouse and let us cook breakfast for you. You can see our updates and changes to the station and we will have the brand new Rescue Engine 421 on display to be viewed by all. Cost is $6, adult and $3, children 5 and under.
Proceeds go to the Fireman’s Association. Fundraiser goal is a new fire station to be built on land donated to the fire department, and new equipment.
Menu items include: scrambled eggs with sausage links, hash browns, biscuits & gravy, pancakes, orange juice, white and chocolate milk, coffee. Take out is available if you are unable to stay.
Pork Chop or Ribs Dinner
The West Alex Celebration Committee is having a BBQ Pork Chop or Ribs Dinner, Sunday, April 13 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Drive-thru pick up at the front of the W. Alex Police Department. Cost of dinner is $8 and includes a choice of two sides, (green beans, apples sauce and cole slaw) and dinner roll. Order ahead by calling Carol Lunsford at 937-839-4085 or Pick up order forms and drop off or mail to The Pin Up Shoppe, 50 W. Second St. or at the W. Alex Library or Michelle Laughlin at 41 W. Second Street. Due by April 10. Proceeds will help fund the Fourth of July Fireworks for the village.
The TVS High School Marching Band participated in the Findlay Market Day (Red’s Opening Day) Parade on Monday, March 31. There were 12 bands in the parade and TVS was the fourth band and was position 43 in the parade. We are in the process of ordering new marching band uniforms. Marching Band Cook Books make great gifts at just $10 each. Sales are first come, first served! SAL James E. Ryan Post#322 has scheduled a fun-filled Evening at Hoosier Park, Saturday, April 12. Cost is $30 per person. The bus leaves the Legion parking lot at 4p.m. and will be departing from Hoosier Park at 10 p.m.
The Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting the Children’s Easter Egg Hunt, Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m. Please sign up in the canteen by April 12. Children must be sponsored by a member and be 12 years of age or younger.
SAL will hold the next Fish Fry Saturday, April 19, from 5 - 7 p.m.
Senior Fun Buch, old time country and western music every Thursday from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Legion Post #322, 477 Ohio 503 south in West Alexandria.
Twin Valley Rod and Gun Club
Venison for Food Banks
The Twin Valley Rod and Gun Club semi-annual Turkey Shoot takes place every Sunday through April 27. Starting time is 1 p.m. This event is open to everyone and we hope to see a nice crowd. This is our main fundraiser each year. Come on out and win turkeys, hams, bacon and packages of mixed kinds of meat. Money shoots are also held.
The Venison for Food Banks of Preble County program is on-going. Anyone who takes a deer can donate all or part of the meat for the Foodbanks. We have sponsors who will take care of the processing fees. You may contact Brad Turner, Preble County Game Warden, or Curtis Early at 937-533-3226.
The WA Coterie Club celebrated its 60 year Anniversary with a party at Salem Lutheran Church on March 22. The next Coterie meeting will be April 28 at Salem, where they will elect officers. There are two $500 scholarships available for graduating TVS/MVCTC seniors in the TVS HS Guidance office. Please submit by April 18.
Alpha Kappa Sorority of West Alexandria is offering two $500 scholarships to two graduating seniors attending the Twin Valley South High School or West Alexandria seniors attending MVCTC. The recipient of these scholarships must be planning to attend an accredited college, university, technical school or community college. The selection will be based upon academic qualifications, participation in extracurricular activities, a written essay, and a teacher recommendation. Applications for these scholarships can be picked up at the Twin Valley South High School Guidance Office. The deadline for submitting applications to the Guidance Office is April 7, 2014. Alpha Kappa Sorority is proud once again to offer these two scholarships to deserving students of Twin Valley South High School.

Calling all piggy people! We need a good home for 20lb. mini pot-bellied lady pig! She is potty trained and sits for treats, she is just a little territorial, so she needs to be the only gal around. Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt
Kiwanis will hold their annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 19 at 2pm at the WABO park in West Alexandria. There are three different age categories: Walking to 3 years, ages 4-7 years old and 8-12 years old. Prize eggs in each division. Sponsored by West Alexandria Kiwanis Club.
Kiwanis will hold their annual Chicken BBQ on April 27 at the West Alexandria Fire House on East Main Street beginning at 11a.m. until sold out. Cost is $7 for half a chicken, two sides and a roll. Drinks will be provided for dine-in only.
Kiwanis Club meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month and welcomes new members. Contact Carol Lunsford for more information by calling 937-839-4085.

St. John Lutheran, Ingomar
Lenten carry-in meals will be served at 6:30 p.m. and Lenten services will be held at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday through April 9.
Join us on Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m. for St. John’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt Extravaganza. The event will also include a puppet show (based upon the Legend of the Donkey), craft, and outside games (weather permitting), which will include egg and spoon races, egg toss, the bunny hop, and egg bowling. Refreshments will also be served. Come out and enjoy the festivities! A fun time is sure to be had by all!
Maundy Thursday service, April 17, will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will not include communion. Good Friday service, April 18, will begin at 6:30 p.m. St. John will be presenting eight themes of the stations of the cross using various forms of artistic expression to convey the presence of God among us.
Easter Sunrise Service will begin Sunday, April 20 at 7 a.m. Breakfast will be served immediately following the service. There will be no Sunday school.
W/ELCA met on Thursday, March13. There were ten members present. Jan presented the devotions about a book called The Dash, which told how to make a difference in our lives.New Business includes: Spring Gathering on April 5, Women’s Council is on March 13, Retired Teachers’ Luncheon is on April 8, The WELCA Dinner at Marie Huffman’s is April 10, Mother/Daughter Banquet is on May 9, We serve Rotary in May. Next meeting is on June 12 at 7 p.m. Lorey Collins will have the program and Judy Hall and Paula Schiml will have refreshments.
We are collecting items to complete Baby Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief and baby items for Birthright in Eaton: by April 6, one jacket, sweater or sweatshirt with a hood, or include a baby cap. By April 13 , one hand towel, dark color recommended and two bath-size bars (four to 5 oz.) of gentle soap, in original wrapping. Dayton Dragons Outing will be Monday, June 30 at 7 p.m. There are still plenty of tickets available to attend The Dayton Dragons versus the Lake County Captains. Invite your family and friends. Reserve your tickets today by calling or emailing the office with your desired number. Seating is located in the stands, not the lawn. Tickets are $5 each and are on a first come first serve basis until our allotted quantity is gone. Payment for tickets is due by May 1.

Invite your friends and neighbors to a Lenten Meal served from 5:45-6:45 and stay for Lenten Services at 7 p.m. every Wednesday through April 9.
Jr. Lutherans will need items to help fill Easter Baskets for the Food Bank. Items needed include individually wrapped candies, small, new stuffed animals, small toys, crayons, etc. by April 9. Please, no bags of jelly beans or plastic eggs. We try to fill at least 40 baskets but are hoping to fill more, with your generous donations.
Easter Lilies can currently be ordered on the sheet in the church library. Each single stem lily with 3-4 blooms will be $7 each. Lilies can be designated in honor or in memory of some person or event.
A special offering for the Good Samaritan Fund will support the Andrew Eck family to assist with unusual medical expenses. As you are able please contribute to the Salem Church Good Samaritan Fund.
Maundy Thursday, April 17, and Good Friday, April 18, Worship services will begin at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday services will begin with Breakfast at 8:15, an Easter Egg Hunt at 9:15, Sunday School at 9:30 and the Festival of Communion Worship Service at 10:30 a.m.
Salem LYO will be hosting a soup lunch directly after worship services on the first Sunday of each month in the Fellowship Hall. Cost will be a donation in any amount. Youth Committee Meetings will be held the first Tuesday of each month at 7p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Catechism classes will not meet during Lent but students are strongly encouraged to attend worship services as their family schedules permit. Classes will meet again starting Wednesday, April 23.

Church of the Brethren
Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage presents a two-day video seminar at West Alexandria Church of the Brethren on April 11-12. This is a widely entertaining and informative marriage event designed to bring hope and positive change to marriages. It creates better communication in marriages, helps spouses better understand each others’ needs, and rekindles romance in marriage relationships. The event will begin on Friday, April 11 at 5:30 p.m. with a free meal at Buckeye Jake’s in West Alexandria.
The sessions will begin at 7 p.m. at West Alexandria Church of the Brethren and conclude by 10 p.m. The Saturday, April 11 sessions will begin at 9a.m. and conclude by 12:30 p.m. The cost for this event is now $46 a couple.
