Tri-County North’s Colton Booth has added his name to an elite group of wrestlers at the school.

The 182-pound junior advanced to the state tournament by placing fourth at the Division III District tournament at Troy’s Hobart Arena, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22.

Booth won his first two matches to reach the semifinal. In the semis, he suffered a 6-5 setback, but bounced back to win his next match to move on.

“Colton continues to succeed in making others wrestle the match that he wants, in the positions that he wants to be in,” North coach Brad Statzer said. “Colton went three and two on the weekend. The two losses were close and could’ve went either way. Colton just finds a way to win. He joins other elite wrestlers from TCN with his first birth to the state championships.”

Booth was joined at the districts by Blake Lawson and Kyle Singleton.

Lawson opened the tournament with a loss, but rebounded to win his next match to finish in the top 12.

“Blake wrestled well in all three bouts but came up short of making it to state. Going 1-2 on the weekend was not hateful for the first time district qualifier, who still has goals to make next season. Blake is looking to make the top of his goals in gaining 100 career victories in his career. Blake finished the season with a 32-15 record on the year an 88 percent winning percentage,” Statzer said.

Singleton, who was an alternate, was placed in the field prior to the competition starting.

“Kyle achieved a few of his personal goals this year winning more matches than last year and gaining more of them in the pinning fashion than last season,” Statzer said.

All three were making their first appearances at the district level.
