Tri-County North’s girls basketball team picked up a win last week, but dropped a pair of games as well.

North opened the week with a 42-36 road win over Bethel on Monday, Jan. 27. The Panthers used a strong second quarter to grab the lead as they outscored the Bees 17-8 to take a 24-20 halftime lead.

On Wednesday, North put up a challenge for the first half, only to fall to visiting Dixie 63-44. North trailed by just four at the break, but was outscored 23-13 in the third.

Jackie Marshall led all North scorers with 16 points, while Kendra Vanover added 10 and Megan Duffy chipped in with eight

North closed out the week by hosting Cross County Conference leader Miami East. North managed just six points in the opening half en route to an 84-24 loss. Marshall led the Panthers with 13 points.

North was scheduled to visit Covington on Monday, Feb. 3, and Stivers on Tuesday. They are to host National Trail on Thursday to close out the regular season.

Tri-County North’s boys basketball team captured a big conference win on Friday, holding off a late run by Arcanum to escape with a 40-38 win.

In a low-scoring, defensive affair, Tri-County North broke open a 16-15 halftime lead with a big third quarter – outscoring the Trojans 14-8 in the frame to push the margin to 30-23.

Arcanum caught fire in the fourth quarter, storming back to score 15 points in the frame.

But it wasn’t enough as Tri-County North, led by a 20-point effort from Austin Hutchins, held on for the two-point win.

Hutchins also pulled down 13 rebounds for the double-double and Hunter Gleadell contributed with 10 points.

On Saturday, North fell to Northridge 73-26. North fell behind 50-12 at the half.

The Panthers are scheduled to host Twin Valley South on Friday.
