Eagles to compete in SWBL meet

The Eagles had another exciting week of swimming. They competed in the Southwest Swim Classic at Miami University on Saturday but got snowed out on Sunday. The classic meet is billed as the largest High School meet in the country. Roughly 3300 athletes from Division 1 and 2 schools from all over southwest Ohio compete at eight different swim sites and then swim finals at St. Xavier natatorium. They also had a quad dual meet with Hagerstown, Richmond and New Madison Tri Village at their home meet pool. The girls went 1 and 2, the boys went 2 and 1 and combined they went 2 and 1.


“The kids continue to take time off their events” Coach Dave Montgomery said.


The girls’ medley relay of Emma McKinney, Brooklyn Montgomery, Kelsey Gregory and Callie McCargish took the record time down to 2:10.08 at the Richmond meet and the same group of girls took the 200 free relay time down to 1:54.49 at classics. The same group of girls broke a record from 2006 in the 400 Medley relay by beating the record by 21 seconds taking the time down to 4:45.21. Kelsey Gregory broke the 50 freestyle record with a time of 25.34 and the 500 freestyle record with a time of 5:32.87. Gregory also finished first in the 50 and 100 freestyle at the quad meet.


Other notable swims included Brenna Hauberger, who finished her 50 free with a PB of 34.32. Kyra Houle took her 100 back time down to 1:32.21. Emma McKinney took her 50 free to a 30.95. Brooklyn Montgomery had a PBin the 500 freestyle at Classic and a personal best (PB) in the 100 breaststroke at the home meet with times of 6:00.32 and 1:21.03. Grace Reynolds had a PB for the year in the 100 back at classic with a time of 1:25.94.


On the boys’ side, the boys 200 medley relay finished first at home and had a PB of 1:52.20. The relay team of Trey Gregory, Mason McCargish, Drew Pool and Jacob Liddy finished 1st at the home meet in the 400 freestyle with a time of 3:43.17. Mason McCargish finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.23 and the 100 back stroke with a time of 1:01.35. Drew Pool finished first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.94 and first in the 100 freestyle with at time of 51.76, which was a PB for him. Mickey McCargish finished first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.32 and a PB for the season.


Some other good swims include Wesley Beach, who swam the 200 freestyle for the first time with a time of 2:48.23, Blake Clabaugh also swam the 200 in a time of 2:34.92. Zach Hawley had a PB of1:06.99 in the 100 free and a PB in the 200 free with at time of 2:37.63. Max Lawson continued to drop time in his 100 butterfly with a time of 1:14.29 for a PB. Joshua Liddy took his 50 free down to 29.05 for a PB. Mason McCargish set a record for the 400 IM at Classic with at time of 4:57.45. Mickey McCargish had a PB of 25.65 in the 50 free and PB of 1:14.64 in the 100 back. Andy Newport swam the 200 breast at Classic in a time of 3:22.62. Colton Sims took his 500 freestyle down to 6:46.17.


The Eagles are starting their postseason with a swim at the Trotwood natatorium for the SWBL Swim Meet on Saturday, Feb. 1 and the following week, the boys and girls will swim their sectional on Friday and Saturday.
