Commissioners’ Corner

January 28, 2014

The Preble County Commissioners would like to thank Pastor Ken Harbaum for scheduling pastors and others to give a prayer before many of the County Commission meetings. The kind words and prayers for the elected officials, our citizens, military, first responders and others give a sense of caring and comfort to everyone.

Those who will give prayers at various times this year are: Ken Harbaum, Scott Robertson, Wayne Gardner, Charlie Rinehart, Father Fitzsimmons, Del Hoover, Jonathan Grubb, Jeremy Halstead, Paul Brubaker, Maria Brubaker, and Steve Lair.

The commissioners wish to thank The Moving Ohio Forward Committee for their work in utilizing the $330,000 to demolish abandoned and neglected homes in our county. The money was given to the state due to the mortgage lending lawsuit settlements and they passed the money on to all 88 counties to be specifically used to take down abandoned and neglected properties with owner approval. The committee completed the task by the Dec. 31, 2013 deadline and removed 33 units. The Attorney General’s office extended the deadline to June 30, 2014 due to some counties lagging behind and not meeting the deadline.

We have heard that there may be one more round with enough money to take down one additional home, due to some counties not using all the money that was set aside for them.
