CEDARVILLE TOWNSHIP — A 19-year-old man was hospitalized following a farming accident Friday morning.
The victim is Sam Williamson. According to Facebook posts, he is a graduate of Cedarville High School and the Greene County Career Center. He is employed as a farm hand at Beinvenides Farms.
According to Cedarville Twp. Fire Chief Scott Baldwin, the young man, whose name was not available, was working on a cornpicker at a farm at the intersection of Rakestraw and Federal Roads when his leg became entrapped in the picker’s gathering chains and pulled into the machine shortly before 11 a.m. Friday morning.
Another man working the picker shut the machine down to prevent further injury, Baldwin said. The machine had to be disassembled to remove the victim before he was transported to Miami Valley Hospital via Careflight.
Cedarville and New Jasper townships fire and EMS units responded to the scene, as well as several neighboring farmers, Baldwin said.
His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
